I suspect it was the work of a disgruntled artist whose rent just got jacked up. The building, which has historically housed arts organizations and other nonprofits, was purchased by a developer earlier this year who proceeding to jack up everyone's rent and boot out the entire 4th floor so the space could gutted and converted to expensive offices and apartments. The sign sure is a hoot, though. (I wonder how long it will take Darth Vader & Associates to notice :)
